Capa para o próximo livro do autor israelita de FC e Fantasia Lavie Tidhar, a noveleta Gorel and the Pot-bellied God, publicada pela inglesa PS. O livro a seguir é num registo completamente distinto e a capa será igualmente num tom bem diverso. Tal como neste, estará tudo no título: Osama.

IT’S ALL IN THE TITLE
Cover for the forthcoming book by Israeli SF and Fantasy author Lavie Tidhar, Gorel and the Pot-bellied God, a novelette published by PS Publishing. His next book, for which I’m doing the cover as well, will be a totally different business and accordingly the cover will respect that. Like in this one, all will be in the title: Osama.

Fogueiras e trevas

Duas capas para dois livros na área da fantasia e ficção científica, com uma pitada de romance histórico (confusos?). A mesma composição centrada sobre um eixo vertical, com recurso a iconografia pouco usada mas que se adequava histórica ou esteticamente: um retrato do pintor holandês do século XVII Anthonie Palamedesz (1601-1673) para a capa de As Fogueiras de Deus de Patricia Anthony e um cavaleiro (que adaptei consideravelmente) da autoria do pintor maneirista Francesco Mazzola, il Parmigianino (1503-1540), para a capa de O Feitiço das Trevas da autora portuguesa A.P. Cabral. Neste usei ainda um fundo retirado de um dos quadro do romântico alemão Caspar David Friedrichs e uns centauros pintados por Piero da Cosimo.

BONFIRES AND DARKNESS
Two covers for two books under the joint labels of fantasy, science fiction and a bit of historical novel thrown into the bargain (confused?). The same layout centred over a vertical axis, with the help of some thankfully underused iconography that I happened to find fit either historically or aesthetically: a portrait by Dutch painter Anthonie Palamedesz (1601-1673) for Patricia Anthony’s God’s Fires (Fogueiras de Deus), and a knight (whom I considerably messed with) painted by Italian mannerist Francesco Mazzola, il Parmigianino (1503-1540) for the cover of Feitiço das Trevas (something like The Spell of Darkness) by Portuguese author A.P. Cabral. Romantic German painter Friedrich provided the eerie background for this one also, and a couple of centaurs painted by Piero da Cosimo came in quite handy (I threw in a couple of pterodactyls just for the fun of it, and they do their part quit stoically).
